The Genitive Plural of Nouns
Родительный падеж имён существительных (мн.ч.)
1) The genitive case of a noun denotes possession and answers
the questions чей? чья? чьё? чьи? (whose?), кого? (of whom?), чего? (of what?)
Чьи книги? - Книги студентов.
2) The genitive is used after the words нет (have no; there is no), не было (had no; there was no),
не будет (will have no; there will be no).
3) The genitive is used to indicate the starting point of motion. In this case different prepositions are used: из, с, от.
The phrase consisting of a noun and one of such prepositions answers the question откуда? (where from?)
4) The genitive plural is used after the numerals 5 and further on till 20 and also 25, 26, etc.,
or the words много, мало, сколько, несколько.

REMEMBER: a small group of masculine nouns ending in -а in the nominative singular
does not take any ending in the genitive plural:
папа - пап, мужчина - мужчин
